Original 20-minute papers are sought for the VIII biennial conference of the Association of Iberian and Latin American Studies of Australasia on any aspect exploring notions of the “popular” in Spain, Portugal, Lusophone Africa, and Latin America, including:

  • the politics of the popular
  • popular religious expressions
  • indigenous movements
  • the nation and the popular
  • social histories
  • theories of the popular
  • the popular and minority cultures
  • gender and popular culture
  • popular images of the nation
  • popular culture and second language acquisition

Although the main focus of the conference is on the popular, papers on other topics are welcome. The organising committee also welcomes suggestions for panels.
