Learning Discourses and the Discourses of Learning

A Conference

8-9 December, 2005

Monash University, Clayton

One of the newly-formed Research Clusters in the School of Languages , Cultures and Linguistics of Monash University is the “Contact Competence” research cluster group. It brings together staff and students with an interest in the discursive processes and outcomes of participation in academic contact situations, particularly in relation to second language learning situations and the academic contact situations of non-English students studying in Australia . This research is highly pertinent in the context of the internationalization of the university and the growing intercultural nature of university interactions. Members of this research group will workshop some of their research at a conference and invite others, including postgraduate students, to also participate.

Keynote speakers

  • Professor Patricia Duff, University of British Columbia:
    "Problematizing Academic Discourse Socialization"
  • Professor Tim McNamara, University of Melbourne:
