Director

Uschi Felix

Associate Professor Uschi Felix is the inaugural Director of this Research Centre. She has recently retired from full-time work but is continuing her research as Honorary Research Fellow. She is an international expert in the field and has given invited keynote addresses in Australia, Italy, Germany, Korea, Finland, Ireland, Japan, Sweden, the US and the UK. She has a research background in applied linguistics, been a lecturer in ESL, French and German, initiated the development of innovative software and Websites in several languages, established international collaborative projects, and published many critical articles in international journals. She is also a member of the editorial boards of the international journals CALL, Language Learning, JaltCALL and GFL and served for three years as Associate Dean (IT) in the Faculty of Arts.

Her two books Virtual Language Learning: Finding the Gems among the pebbles and Beyond Babel: Language Learning Online became bestsellers in the field, and her penultimate work Language Learning Online: Towards Best Practice has also been well reviewed to date. Her latest book: Accelerative Learning: Wonder Method or Pseudo-scientific Gobbledygook has just been released. She is passionately committed to teaching and to bringing together research, teaching and development in the Centre.

Nina Dow

Nina Dow received an MA in Applied Linguistics, specializing in CALL, in 1996. She has many years experience in assisting major research projects in the Faculty of Art. Her special expertise is in questionnaire design, data collection and statistical analysis.
