NCSAS International Collaboration
Annual Undergraduate Economics Convention
The Undergraduate Economics Convention of December 2005 is the 7th consecutive year in which the Monash Asia Institute has participated in this challenging and interesting event organised by the Hyderabad Sindh National Collegiate Board in Mumbai, India. During the first six years, the Monash team won the HSNCB trophy three times for the best research paper and presentation. In 2004, the Monash team won the medal for the best Question and Answer session. But winning trophies is not why we continue to participate. We have been sending our best undergraduate economics students to the annual convention as one of the most effective ways of developing people to people links between Australia and India. Running parallel to the convention we have supported a number of other initiatives including visits to Monash University in Melbourne by the staff and students of the HSNCB colleges, an internship program in Mumbai and Melbourne and joint research on Dharavi.
The 2005 Monash team consists of Ben Levett , Joanne MacFayden, Angela Cardenas, Clementine Thompson and Nastaran Jafari. The programme is jointly supported by Monash Abroad, the Department of Economics (he Faculty of Business and Economics, Monash University) and the Hyderabad Sindh National Collegiate Board.
Students interested in participating in the 2006 December debate in Mumbai should contact Professor Marika Vicziany, Director, at marika.vicziany@adm. monash.edu.au.
