Eddie Gray Prize for the Best Work On Australia Sri Lanka Relations The Australia Sri Lanka Business Council Is Pleased to Announce That the Winner of the Edward Gray Prize 2005 for the Best Work in Promoting Australia - Sri Lanka Bilateral Relations has Been Awarded to Dr Anthony Donaldson for His Phd Thesis On the ‘Tooth Temple’ of Kandy. The Thesis Titled the 'Ritual Singers in the Dalada Maligawa, Kandy' Was Undertaken in the Music School of Monash University Under the Supervision of Dr Reis Flora. Mr Eddie Gray Was Devoted to Improving Australia’S Links with Sri Lanka and Mrs Gray has Therefore Announced This Annual Prize of $500. A Special Award Ceremony Is Being Held in Late November at Which the High Commissioner for Sri Lanka Will Hand the Prize to Dr Donaldson. Dr Donaldson’S Work Is an Outstanding Thesis of Scholarship That Combines Indigenous and English Language Sources, Historical and Cultural Texts and Extensive Fieldwork On the Poetic and Musical Tradition of This Temple - One of the World’S Most Important Buddhist Sites. In This Manner, Dr Donaldson has Been Recognised by the Prize Committee has Having Made a Unique Contribution to Documenting the History and Life of This Internationally Renowned Temple. --------- Item 3. As Many Who Are Active in the Australian Education Industry Know, Indian Students Seem to Be Here for More Than Just Education; They Are Also Known to Apply for Permanent Residency in Large Numbers After Graduation. This Creates an Interesting Dilemma: As Education Does Not Seem Their First Priority, Then What Does That Mean for the Way They Live Their Lives As Students Here in Australia? South Asian Studies Association Hugh Owen Undergraduate Prize Each Year, the South Asian Studies Association (Sasa) Offers the Hugh Owen Prize for the Best Undergraduate Essay in South Asian Studies. For the Purposes of the Prize, the Term “South Asia” Covers the Countries of the Indian Subcontinent and Is Taken to Include Afghanistan, Bangladesh, Bhutan, India, the Maldives Islands, Myanmar, Nepal, Pakistan and Sri Lanka. Essays Are Invited From All Disciplines. The Prize Is Awarded to the Best Undergraduate Essay On South Asia in Any Field of Not More Than 4,000 Words Written As Part of an Undergraduate Course of Study During the Academic Year of 2005. The Value of the Prize Is Aud$200.00 About Hugh Owen Hugh Owen Was One of the Key People Behind the Drive to Establish a Professional Association of Scholars in Australia and New Zealand Concerned with the Study of South Asia. Hugh Undertook the Difficult Task of Setting Up the Journal, South Asia, Establishing Its Standards, Style and Academic Standing and Over the Seven Years of His Term of Office Established the Journal As a Major Organ Concerned with South Asian Studies Outside the Indian Subcontinent. While Heavily Involved in Work, Hugh Was Also a Charismatic Scholar and Teacher at the University of Western Australia. This Prize Commemorates Hugh’S Pursuit of Excellence and His Efforts to Achieve That Quality Among His Students. Can Tho 150 Project Scholarships The Objective of the Project Is to Provide Overseas Training at Postgraduate Level for Technical and Scientific Staff in Order to Foster Industrialisation and Modernisation of Can Tho City. Fields of Training Are Connected Closely with Short-Term and Long-Term Development Planning of Can Tho. The Specific Target of the Programme Is to Produce an Additional 150 Young Doctoral and Master Degree Holders by 2011. All the Personnel Trained Are Expected to Work in State Organisations/Agencies. Selection of Scholarship Holders Is Done Frequently in Quarters Ii and Iv Annually ** Scholarship Holders Should Be Residents of Can Tho City and Will Be Selected From: - Final-Year Undergraduate Students with Good Study Results and Foreign Language, From Pre-Intermediate Level and Above.
