Current Projects of ROAM

Pilot Project
The building of a permanent vocational secondary school of music in Afghanistan has been identified as the ROAM Pilot Project. This is the second recommendation the Music in Afghanistan Today report. The main aim of the school is to provide music education for orphans who are willing to make a career in music. The education provided by this ROAM project would give the students skills for building a musical career. At the same time, the project will preserve the musical traditions of Afghanistan and promote vocational musical education.
The ROAM pilot project is supported by:
- Monash Asia Institute;
- Monash School of Music - Conservatorium;
- Monash Science Centre;
- The Ministry of Education of the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan pledged its full support and partnership to ROAM and kindly offered a piece of land for the building of the school;
- Peter Williams, and Rosanna Blacket from Williams Boag Architects will contribute to the design of the school;
- A group of Melbourne based Australian and Afghan musicians called the Friends of ROAM
Monash Asia Institute and its partners together with the Ministry of Education of the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan will approach potential Australian and international organisations to raise funding for the pilot project;
Contribution of individuals and organisations towards funding the pilot project is most welcome and highly appreciated.
