Dr Jemma Purdey

Jemma Purdey is Writer-in-Residence Postdoctoral Research Fellow in the Centre of Southeast Asian Studies.

Research Interests

She is currently researching and writing a biography of Herb Feith, one of Australia's leading Indonesianists.

Her PhD, 'Anti-Chinese Violence in Indonesia, 1996-1998', was completed in 2002 and has recently been published. Her research interests include life writing, the study of violent conflict, human rights and reconciliation in Indonesia and minority studies. She lived and worked as a volunteer in Mumbai, India in 2004 and has written several articles on Indian politics, law and film.
