Migration Outlook

The Department of Immigration and Citizenship (DIAC) has forecast an increase in Net Overseas Migration (NOM) from 170,300 for the year to June 2011 to 186,700 for the year to June 2012. It then projects gradual growth over the next three years, to reach 204,400 for the year to June 2015.

NOM has declined by 46% from the record high of 315,700 in 2008-09. The decline is explained by the fall in net temporary entrants.
