Zavod Classical-Jazz Performers Award

The Zavod Classical-Jazz Fusion Performers Award was created by Dr Allan Zavod with Patron Dame Elisabeth Murdoch AC, DBE. Monash University administers the Award and provides a performance platform for the finalist.

First prize: $5,000. One runner-up receives $1,000.

Performers are invited to submit their performance of a jazz-classical fusion composition in the form of an audio CD and DVD, a score (PDF), a brief description of the work and a photo of the performer(s). The composition should reflect elements of both jazz and classical styles, and should be up to ten minutes in duration.

The prize is awarded on the quality of the performance but the work can be the performer's original composition. The judges decision about the winners will be final. The Award is open to tertiary music students nationally who have been resident in Australia for a minimum of two years. Applicants can be solo performers or ensembles. Finalists are responsible for their cost of travel and accommodation. There is no entry fee.

Deadline: September 30, 2011.
