This includes techniques such as; musique concrète, signal processing, algorithmic composition, sound synthsis and sound spatialisation.

The group is made up of composition students at the School of Music - Conservatorium and other interested students. The group is run by Composition Lecturer Peter Mcilwain Members of the sonic art group work with Peter on projects for concerts, CDs and and contribute to research into computer music.

Recent Concerts

Hear the results of a great collaboration between the Sonic Art Group and the Plans jazz ensemble. The concert will feature live acoustic and electronic improvisation with the raw sounds and musical gestures provided by Plans and signal processing and sound spatialisation provided by the Sonic Art Group. Beautiful and intriguing musical textures are created by the sounds from jazz being fractured and recombined into a rich sound field that is distributed in space around the audience. The concert also features the work of a duet of computer and piano provided by Tom Dunstan and David O'Brien. Tom and David's work is very expressive and diverse in its sonic range.
