Pre-Prints, Etc.:

Here are some papers that, for one reason or another, are now unlikely to make it into print.:

  1. Propositional attitude ascriptions and context-dependence

I wrote this paper for the Maribor conference on Michael Devitt's book Coming to our Senses. Because I was unable to attend the conference, the paper was not considered for publication in the proceedings. It is hard to think of a suitable venue for publishing it now.

  2. How to parry a Millian heir

This paper is a response to Nathan Salmon's 'A Millian Heir Rejects The Wages Of Sinn '. It was not written with the intention of submitting it for publication. (I don't think that there is anything in it that is very surprising in the light of my other publications on these matters. However, some of it may be a little more droll than my other writings.)
  3. Review of Boghossian and Peacocke(2000)

A condensed version of this review was published in the Australasian Journal of Philosophy in Spetember, 2002. The editorial staff very reasonably took the view that the AJP was not a suitable venue to publish a review of this length.

  4. Minimalism, fiction and ethical truth

An early version of this paper was presented at AAP97, under the title 'Minimalism, Meinong, and Compositionality'. That version of the paper was gazumped by the publication of a very similar piece by John Divers and Alex Miller. The moment for publication of this piece has probably passed (though much of this material has found its way into the draft of Fact, Fiction and Fictionalism, and may eventually be published via that indirect route).

  5. Minimalism about truth and minimalism about truth-aptness

The aim of this piece is to extend the discussion of the connections between minimalism about truth and minimalism about truth-aptness that appears in Jackson, Oppy and Smith (1994). The final section needs a little bit more work, which I suspect that I will not now get around to accomplishing.

  6. Pluralism about truth

This piece was written for a conference in Sydney in 1997, run by Huw Price. My presentation at the conference followed what is written here, and tailed off in much the same kind of fashion. This is another piece that needs a little bit more work to round it out, and which has been cannibalised in the production of the current draft of Fact, Fiction and Fictionalism.
