| Policy Statement |
The Postgraduate Convener is the key academic administrative role within the faculty in relation to postgraduate coursework matters. The Postgraduate Convener:
- Attends relevant faculty-level education committees (particularly ESEC) and is responsible for disseminating information and developments on postgraduate coursework matters, policies and programs to the schools’ postgraduate coordinators;
- Provides expert advice and guidance on policies, procedures and requirements to school postgraduate coordinators and other colleagues, who are engaged in the process of GPG course and unit development;
- Provides expert advice and guidance to new postgraduate coordinators/staff on relevant GPG faculty policies and procedures in relation to teaching and learning;
- Provides advice on the administration of scholarships, funding or prize schemes intended for PG coursework students;
- Provides guidance to the school postgraduate coordinators on their participation in the School education/teaching committee/meetings that deal directly or indirectly with GPG matters;
- Contributes to the development of GPG related faculty policy and teaching culture by participation in relevant committees/working parties;
- May be asked to advise Heads of School or the Associate Dean (Education) as well as the ESEC committee regarding nominations for teaching awards and commendations;
- Subsequent to the developments and outcomes relating to GPG strategic directions and teaching initiatives at the faculty and university levels, supports and promotes these schemes to the Schools’ postgraduate coordinators and other academic staff when required accordingly;
- Participates in reviews and faculty/university working parties relating to GPG matters in liaison and collaboration with faculty-appointed consultants, the faculty coursework unit and/or Associate Dean (Education) when required;
- Occasionally may be required to initiate ad hoc meetings of school postgraduate coordinators when there is a need to discuss policy issues and initiatives.
