Arts Unit Guides - Section 1 – Cover Page

Unit Synopsis (un-editable Handbook field)

This field provides an overview of what students can expect in the unit.

Mode of Delivery (un-editable Handbook field)

For all campuses of offering, this field describes whether the unit is to be taught:

Workload (editable field)

The contact hours that appear in the Handbook will be shown here, but you can add additional content.

Estimate the student workload of your learning and teaching activities and assessment tasks. Note one credit point implies a student workload of two hours study per week over a standard 12 week semester.

Example 1:
A six point unit taught in a standard 12 week semester - requires a student to undertake 144 hours per semester. The workload statement in this instance would be:
3 contact hours (1 x 2 hour lecture and 1 x 1 hour tutorial) + 9 hours of independent study per week.

Example 2
A twelve point unit taught in a standard semester requires a student to undertake 288 hours per semester. The workload statement in this instance will be:
2 contact hours (1 x 2 hr seminar) + 22 hours of independent study per week.

Example 3
A six point unit taught in winter semester in intensive mode will still require a student to undertake 144 hours, however the workload in this instance might be:
40 contact hours (6 x 3 hour seminars and 2 x 4 hour study tours) + 118 hours of independent study completed over the following semester.

Unit Relationships (un-editable Handbook field)

Lists any prerequisites, corequisites, and prohibitions for this unit.

Chief Examiner (un-editable Handbook field)

A Chief Examiner is appointed by Faculty Board and is responsible for the implementation of the unit assessment regimes prescribed under the regulations and he/she must recommend to the Board the final results for each student enrolled in the unit. For further information see http://www.arts.monash.edu.au/policy-bank/procedures/--downloads/chief-examiners-policy.pdf.

Note: the Chief Examiner can only be a permanent or contract member of staff, not a sessional.
Note: there can only be one Chief Examiner

If the Chief Examiner is recorded incorrectly for this unit, please contact your Teaching Support team member.

Unit Coordinator (editable field)

The Unit Coordinators that appear in the Handbook will be shown here and linked to the staff directory, but you need to add additional content to specify the home campus of the Unit Coordinator, Office Location (building and room number), and Office hours (for consultation).

The Unit Coordinator is the academic staff member assigned to coordinate all unit academic and administrative activities. In most cases the Chief Examiner is also the Unit Coordinator; when this is not the case the Unit Coordinator works directly under the direction of the Chief Examiner.

If details are not known please provide a web link (eg. Moodle page) where the information can be found following release of the Unit Guide.

If the Unit Coordinator is recorded incorrectly for this unit, please contact your Teaching Support team member.
