Politics Research Affiliations

Politics at PSI has a number of research affiliations that can offer increased opportunites for students and researchers. Our research community has both formal and many productive informal links with other organisations and individuals.

European Consortium for Political Research

Monash, through the efforts of the School of Political and Social Inquiry, is an associate member of the European Consortium for Political Research (ECPR), which carries a number of benefits, including a waiver of the registration fee for conference attendance.Membership provides links to a huge network of hundreds of institutions in over 40 countries.

Victorian Parliamentary Internship

Politics at PSI has a longstanding affiliation with the Victorian parliament through the Victorian Parliamentary Internship Program. Dr Greg Gardiner, the Senior Research Officer of the Victorian Parliamentary Library, is an honorary senior research fellow within PSI.

Other dimensions to this affiliation have included the 2005 Great Labor Split conference, held in the Victorian Legislative Assembly and organised by PSI academics, Dr Paul Strangio and Brian Costar. Brian and Paul are co-editing a book on Victorian Premiers which will mark the sesquicentary of parliamentary democracy in Victoria.

ARCAsia Pacific Futures Network - Islam Node

The The ARC APFRN's broad goals are to provide stimulus for innovative research that makes links across disciplinary and area boundaries to enhance Australia's interactions with and knowledge of the Asia Pacific region. The ARC APFRN constitutes 7 nodes, including the Islam Node.

Associate Professor Shahram Akbarzadeh from Politics in the School of Political and Social Inquiry leads the ARC APFRN Islam Node. Associate Professor Shahram is also a member of the The ARC APFRN Management Committee.

The ARC APFRN Islam Node brings together an interdisciplinary group of scholars from different universities around Australia to showcase research excellence and expertise in studies of Muslim affairs in Australia, Asia and the Middle East. The Islam node website carries news of initiatives and activities on research in Islam and Muslim affairs.
