This conference received the support of the Ford Foundation and the Asia Foundation enabling the participation of two Filipinos and eleven Indonesians, including Dr Nurcholish Madjid.
1995 - A principle organizer of the 'Islam, Modernity, Globalisation’ conference, 29 September 1995, Toorak Campus, Deakin University. Keynote speakers at this international conference were KH Abdurrahman Wahid and Nurcholish Madjid.
1994 - A principle organizer of a Centre of Citizenship and Human Rights international conference on ethnic and religious conflict - Human Rights - Rights and Responsibilities - Human Rights and Religion in Asia held at Deakin (Toorak Campus) 27, 28 and 29 July
1993 - A principle organizer of an international conference on ethnic and religious conflict - 'Difference and Tolerance - Ethnicity, Religion and Human Rights in Southeast Asia' held at Deakin 11 and 12 Sept 1993.
1992 - Convened a panel on the topic "Islam and Democracy in Indonesia", involving leading international figures, at a major international conference on "Democracy in Indonesia," held December 1992 at Monash University, and also organising a large post-conference workshop on " Islam and Democracy in Indonesia". The keynote speaker at this international conference was Abdurrahman Wahid.
- Assisted WCRP Australia in the organizing and leading of a delegation of eleven leading religious and NGO figures to Indonesia for the purpose of nurturing understanding in Australian society of Islam in Indonesia (and elsewhere). This visit was sponsored by KH Abdurrahman Wahid (Chairman of Nahdlatul Ulama) and Djohan Effendi (State Secretariat).
