Academic excellence
Centre for Post-colonial Writing plays a leading role in post-colonial creative and literary research in Australia. We have an outstanding track record in higher degree research supervisions and completions. Our research has become a magnet for high-profile national and international postgraduates. Current candidates are from Australia, Germany, Sweden, France, Sri Lanka and India.
Research focus
We promote advanced research through three interconnected streams:
- Creative writing:: fiction, poetry, creative non-fiction, scriptwriting in film and television or drama and theatre
- Literary critique: Asia, Africa, Europe and the post-colonial diaspora
- Cultural Studies: sociological, anthropological and translation studies in the postcolonial region, with particular attention to Australia, both indigenous and non-indigenous
Research environment
Our research environment provide numerous forums for creative and intellectual debate, discussion and exchange. Our communicaty shares knowledge and provides peer support. We organise visits, fellowships and writer’s residencies for distinguished scholars and creative writers, from across Australia and beyond. We host informal workshops and regular meetings of researchers and academics. Conferences and student and staff exchanges compliment our activities. Team based research and co-authored publications are encouraged.
We foster a high quality research culture, undertaking an ambitious annual program of research output and publications.
International opportunities
The School of English, Communications and Performance Studies has numerous formal and informal alliances with peer institutions across the developed and developing world.
