Calcutta University, February 7 - 9, 2006
Presented By
Centre For Postcolonial Writing, Monash University & Department Of English, Calcutta University
The conference recognizes that Australian, Indian and Austral-Indian cross-cultural studies are areas of serious academic engagement. It will also begin a series of celebratory events marking the completion of 150 years of Calcutta University .
Theme
Globalisation has changed the world into a volatile hybrid space in which new combinations and confrontations radically challenge all our forms of understanding and representation. The conference will facilitate, between Australia and India , a scholarly and creative exchange on this theme as addressed in postcolonial literary, visual, performance and cultural studies.
Aims
- To foster the strengthening of research in the Arts between Australia and India
- To provide a collegial and informal opportunity for research exchanges leading to national and international grants
- To produce a publication that investigates key issues of the conference theme
- To provide for the exchange of knowledge in India and Australia of each other's society and culture in the context of the postcolonial.
