PSI Postgraduate Events
The school provides a range of opportunities throughout the year for advanced studies students to meet, interact, share and learn together. Over the course of each year, students are invited to participate in writing workshops, research workshops, seminars, conferences, the annual three minute thesis competition, the annual postgraduate symposium, forums, roundtables and off-campus retreats. These events give students an opportunity to appreciate the contributions of their peers, form networks, engage in debate, receive friendly feedback, develop a range of research and writing skills, work collaboratively, and support one another throughout the journey to completion.

Postgraduate Research Symposium
The School of Political and Social Inquiry is dedicated to the promotion of achievement in research. Annually, the postgraduate symposium gives out advances studies students the opportunity to share their research with fellow candidates, academic staff, prospective advances studies students and their families and friends.
Now in its 13th year, the symposium has a long tradition of creating a platform for students to share their research and develop personal and professional relationships. It establishes an opportunity for advanced studies students to engage with the postgraduate community, share progress and milestones, and witness unique and compelling presentations from promising young social science researchers here at Monash University.
The symposium takes place in October each year, and is a two-day fully catered event. Candidates present in a range of capacities, from formal candidature milestones, to informal 'snapshots' of their research. The presentation of research also gives opportunities for question and answer sessions, allowing students to interact with one another's work, and receive feedback in a friendly and supportive environment.

Prato Workshop: Writing and Publishing in the Social Sciences
Fist run in 2010, the Writing and Publishing in the Social Sciences Workshop is held annually at Monash University's Prato campus in Italy. An inter-university event, including participants from Universities in the UK, Australia, and Italy, the workshop is designed to enhance students' writing skills and prepare students for publication and the realities of an academic career.
The three-day event includes sessions on topics such as managing and responding to reviewers' comments, co-authorship and career planning, how to target appropriate journals, and effective abstracts, as well as mentor-led small group sessions focussed on individual writing and feedback.
Students described the experience as"a great opportunity to garner the best possible advice" which gives"a thorough understanding and awareness of writing for publications". It offers unique opportunities for feedback and development, as well as the opportunity to"make networks in a genuinely collaborative environment", giving Monash students"a head start in the publishing world".
