Awards and Prizes

Monash is dedicated to the pursuit of excellence in research, and wishes to recognise those students whose accomplishments and contributions have been particularly notable. The acknowledgement of excellence is carried out by the university, the faculty, and the school. A variety of prizes and awards are available for PSI high achievers.

School of Political and Social Inquiry Higher Degree Prizes

The school awards prizes in recognition of excellence across all its higher degree programs.

Prizes for Masters by Thesis and Masters by Coursework ($750 each) are awarded to the student who receives the highest score in the school. 

The PhD prize ($1000) is awarded on the basis of nomination and examiners’ reports. 

All prizes are selected from the pool of graduands each year.

This year’s ceremony will take place in early December.

Monash Research Graduate School Postgraduate Publications Award Scheme

The Postgraduate Publications Awards scheme is designed to encourage research degree candidates to disseminate their research findings to a wider public through publication in professional journals or books.

The Postgraduate Publications Award (PPA) provides a living allowance for up to 12 weeks for research students whose theses are under examination and wish to use that time to write articles or books based upon their theses.

Faculty of Arts Postgraduate Publication Prize

The Postgraduate Publication Prize was established to reward and celebrate the research outputs of the Higher Degree by Research cohort in the Faculty of Arts.

Postgraduate researchers who have had a prestigious publication in a current DIISR HERDC publication category included in the Faculty's Research Publication Collection may be eligible for the prize. See the nomination form for full eligibility criteria.

The prize consists of a cheque for AU$1,000 and a certificate from the Faculty of Arts.
