First year survival tips:
Maddee: arts global degree
- familiarise yourself with the library
- use your diary or a calendar to keep track of assignments and tests
- attend lectures (even if they're recorded) in case they show a screening, hand out assignment/information or if you have questions
- ask questions in tutorials or approach your tutor after class if you're unsure
- do the set readings so you have an idea of what to expect/discuss in tutorials
- don't be shy to voice your opinion and allow others to express their's in tutorials
- make useful notes in lectures and classes (dot points rather than paragraphs)
- refer to your handbooks to ensure you use the correct referencing system and formatting of assignments- if it's still unclear ask your tutor
- ask for extra feedback when you're given work back to avoid repeating mistakes
- putting extra effort in during the semester takes away some of the pressure of exams
1st year subjects:
international studies
Politics- nature, law and revolution
Italian
Anthropology
I chose these subjects primarily because they interested me. Majoring in international studies is compulsory for my course and I felt that the course outline in anthropology for second semester complimented that subject well. Whilst I had very little knowledge of political theorists prior to beginning my course I found it fascinating and still applicable to the modern era. Continuing with Italian was important for me as not only did it give me more insight into Italian culture but will allow me to perhaps study overseas in the future and enable me to pick up other Latin based languages more easily which will tie in well with my course. I'm still unsure as to what career I want to pursue in the future but I still feel I'm in the right course as so far I have loved my subjects and the variety an arts degree offers.
