Postgraduate Publication Awards and Prizes

The University, the Faculty and the School promote excellence in a variety of areas. One of the ways is to present annually a Postgraduate Publication Prize for an outstanding publication (see below for conditions). There are also Postgraduate Publication Awards which provide a living allowance for up to 12 weeks for research students whose theses are under examination and wish to use that time to write articles or books based upon their theses (see below for information).

School of Political and Social Inquiry

Postgraduate Publication Prize

In recognition of the substantial research contribution made by postgraduates in the School of Political and Social Inquiry, a new publication prize has been established. The prize will be awarded annually to the most outstanding publication by a PSI postgraduate student of the preceding year. The prize will be judged by a panel chaired by the School's Research Chair, Professor Carla Lipsig-Mumme. The panel will consider and rank submissions on the basis of originality, scholarship and contribution to knowledge.

What types of publications are eligible?

Any sole-authored publication that has been included in the School's submission to the annual DEST publication audit of work published in the previous calendar year is eligible for the prize.

Who is eligible?

Anyone currently or previously enrolled in a higher degree in the School of Political and Social Inquiry whose publications were included in the DEST audit for that year. This includes candidates who have already submitted and/or were awarded their degrees where the publication is based on thesis research.

What is the prize?

The author of the prize-winning publication will receive a certificate and a book voucher valued at $500.
