GSC research is focused on the intersections of gender, society and culture. Our research cluster has a strongly interdisciplinary character and includes researchers working in the fields of women’s and gender studies, sociology, criminology, politics, and anthropology, as well as in historical, literary and cultural studies. The cluster incorporates the activities of the Centre for Women’s Studies & Gender Research. Our diverse approaches are linked by an understanding of how the political, social and cultural challenges facing our world are critically shaped by gender.  We aim to enhance critical understandings of key gender questions through consideration of their historical, contemporary and future contexts. Much of our work, both practical and theoretical, is framed within feminist theoretical perspectives.

The general objectives of our GSC research program are to:

The strength and sustainability of our cluster is reflected in the calibre of individual research projects currently being conducted, the number and range of collaborative research teams operating, the diversity of funding sources and the number of quality of our graduate students.
GSC researchers conduct gender-related research on political, cultural, social and economic issues, foster awareness of the importance of gender in personal and public life, and seek to shape policy on a national, regional and international level. Academic staff and graduate students are currently involved in research and scholarship in the following areas:
