Facilities and Restaurants in the Local Area
During normal business hours, you should be able to meet most of your needs in the surrounding area of the State Library. Mr. Tulk Café located within the library (entrance laTrobe St) is open for breakfast, lunch and snacks and coffee throughout the day. Various cafes, restaurants and shops can be found in the adjacent shopping centre on Swanston St (Melbourne Central) or in the QV building located behind the SLV.Lygon Street in Carlton also has a large range of restaurants and cafés open for dinner. Other nearby locations of interest (for shopping, eating, exploring) include the CBD, Southbank, Brunswick Street and Smith Street.

Computer Access
The State Library offers free WIFI access for laptop/pda users within the library. Transport from Melbourne Airport (Tullamarine)
If you are arriving from the Melbourne airport you can take a taxi from the ranks outside the arrivals gate (around $30-40 to the CBD) or catch a red Skybus to Spencer Street in the City (around $15 one way, $24 return), leaving every 15 minutes with a journey time of about 20 minutes. Melbourne has an integrated public transport system including trams, trains and buses. Metcard tickets can be pre-purchased from most newsagents and 7-Eleven stores for short trip, two-hour, all day or weekly fares and can also be purchased from coin only ticket machines on the trams. Train
Catch a train to Melbourne Central Station (on the city loop) – take the LaTrobe or Swanston Street exits - the Library is directly opposite Melbourne Central. You may need to change trains at Richmond or Flinders Street/Southern Cross to access a city loop train.

Taxis may be hailed anywhere in the city or phone to book ring 13 2227.
Trams
Tram stops are located on each corner of the La Trobe and Swanston Streets intersection.

Car Parking
There is no parking in Swanston Street and limited spaces around the corner in La Trobe Street throughout the week. Offering two-hour meter parking, the south and north sides of La Trobe Street are designated tow-away zones during the morning and evening peak hours.
Disabled parking
There are three disabled parking spaces in La Trobe Street, near the corner of Swanston Street. Available from 9.30am to 10pm, from Monday to Friday and any time on Saturday and Sunday, these metered spaces have a two-hour time limit. Vehicles using these spaces must have a disabled parking permit clearly displayed.
Commercial car parks
The area is well-served by three commercial car parks located within walking distance of the Library. Two are located are in La Trobe Street and another in Lonsdale Street.
