Deindustrialisation Walking Tour of Melbourne
In common with the experiences of many other cities worldwide, inner Melbourne has undergone profound change in recent decades. New residents, new industries and new forms of culture have transformed an area that was working class, migrant, and dominated by manufacturing industry until the 1970s, to a highly-valorised post-industrial region today. In this walk, Seamus O'Hanlon brings an historical perspective to these recent changes in the urban fabric of the inner city, using Fitzroy, Melbourne's first suburb, as a case study.Start 3.00pm. Meet cnr Nicholson Street and Johnston St, Fitzroy, Melways 2B K7.
Tram 96 from Bourke St. Bus 200, 203 from Lonsdale St and Lygon Sts.
