Confirmation of Candidature Guidelines - Master of Arts (Music Performance)

Masters candidates are required to supply a detailed written research proposal of   2,000 words and at least 10 minutes of live presentation of one of the pieces from the 60 minute recital.

The proposal should engage with:

§   Title of research project

 

§   Statement of the research question

(i)            introduction

(ii)           research question or hypothesis

(iii)          subsidiary questions

(iv)         review of relevant research in theory and practice

 

§   The Method of Inquiry

(i)            conceptual framework 

(ii)           research approach/design

 

The submission must include:

§   Time-table for completing the overall research project

§   Brief Bibliography

§   List of publications/productions produced during probationary candidature (if applicable)

In addition to the written submission, candidates will also be asked to give an oral presentation to a Review Panel. The Review Panel will assess candidate's research proposal and a recommendation will be given in the form of a panel report. Once the review process has been completed, the panel report together with the review documentation must be submitted to the Arts Research Graduate School.

Upgrading to PhD

MA candidates seeking to upgrade to PhD must also supply a drafted chapter of their proposed thesis.
