Chapter 3: Admission to Candidature
3.1 Application for Admission
The University needs to ensure that current staffing provide adequate supervision for each candidate's research program. In many cases, it is desirable to give preference to research candidates whose research program complements the research efforts of existing staff members and of other research candidates. Consequently, research candidates are advised to give some thought to the topic that they might wish to pursue for their thesis. Prior to lodging an application, candidates need to consult their School to negotiate a suitable research proposal and optimal supervision arrangements.
Applicants are encouraged to apply for research candidature by the 31 October each year to start their programs the following year. However, applicants for degrees by 100% research can apply at any time and, if accepted, start their candidature at any time of the year. Applicants for scholarships need to time their application with closing dates for scholarships each year.
More relevant information for future candidates can be found on the Faculty of Arts website.
