Chapter 4: Enrolment and Confirmation of Candidature

4.1 Enrolment

4.1.1 Procedures for PhD Candidates

PhD candidates report to the Monash Research Graduate School to complete enrolment as soon as a letter of offer has been received. After completion of enrolment candidates report to their School to meet with their supervisors and begin familiarising themselves with the provisions made for research candidates at their School. The Faculty of Arts and many of its Schools hold welcome seminars early in the year, and research candidates are strongly encouraged to attend these.

PhD candidates are bound by the PhD regulations, which are printed in the 'Doctoral Information Handbook', which is available from Monash Research Graduate School. An online version is located at: www.mrgs.monash.edu.au/research/doctoral/index.html

4.1.2 Enrolment for Masters Candidates in Receipt of Scholarships or Awards

Masters candidates who are on an Australian Postgraduate Award ( APA ) or Monash Graduate Scholarship ( MGS ) can begin their candidature once the award/scholarship advice has been received. On enrolment day, candidates report to:

4.1.3 Enrolment for Masters Candidates Not in Receipt of Awards

Masters candidates who are not an award or scholarship holder need to follow the enrolment instructions in their letter of offer. On the day of enrolment candidates are directed to:

All research Masters and PhD research candidates who are Australian citizens or permanent residents, who enrol for their course before 31 March each year and re-enrol on time each year receive a Commonwealth supported RTS place for the duration of their candidature, i.e. no HECS fees are payable.
