Chapter 4: Enrolment and confirmation of candidature
4.8 Annual Progress Reports
4.8.1 All Candidates
In June each year all research candidates are required to complete an Annual Progress Report. This provides an annual opportunity for all research candidates, their supervisors and graduate coordinators to report openly and honestly on the candidate's research progress.
The Faculty recommends that supervisors and candidates meet before submitting the Annual Progress Report to discuss its content. This can be an opportunity to renew the expectations of research candidates and their supervisor(s) for the following year of candidature and to increase communications about problems in research progress, and other issues affecting candidature.
If an Annual Progress Report highlights difficulties in relation to candidature (such as slow progress in thesis writing, personal difficulties, equipment shortages, breakdown, experimental difficulties), candidates might be required to complete an Interim Progress Report.
Research candidates who feel they have insufficient access to their supervisors should discuss this matter firstly with their supervisors. If the problem is not resolved, research candidates can contact their School Graduate Co-ordinator or the Head of School. If the School fails to resolve the matter, research candidates can make an appointment to see the Associate Dean (Graduate Research) or the Research Training Coordinator of the Arts Research Graduate School. Both of them treat all subsequent discussions as strictly confidential.
Candidates who have not submitted an Annual or Interim Progress Report requested in a previous year will not be permitted to re-enrol unless a specific exemption has been made.
4.8.2 Scholarship/Award Recipients
The continuation of scholarship/awards is dependent on the completion of a 'satisfactory' Annual Progress Report.
