Chapter 5: Variations to Candidature

5.5 Extension of candidature

Under new regulation approved by ARGC at meeting 4/2006 part time candidates can access up to 12 months extension, but applications must be lodged in six monthly blocks. Where candidates have converted from full time to part time candidature at a date subsequent to commencement of candidature the possible period of extension will be adjusted to a pro rata basis.

5.5.1 100% Masters candidates

Extensions for candidates enrolled on a full-time basis

Full-time candidates who are at the end of their candidature and who expect to be able to submit within the next three months can seek an extension of a maximum of three months, provided that this is supported by their supervisor and the School.

A further extension of three months may be granted only under special circumstances and requires confirmation from the supervisor that the thesis will be submitted within the period of the extension. Extensions beyond six months will not be approved.

Extensions for candidates enrolled on a part-time basis

Part-time candidates who are at the end of their candidature and who expect to be able to submit within the next six months can seek an extension of a maximum of six months, provided that this is supported by their supervisor and the School.

A further extension of six months may be granted only under special circumstances and requires confirmation from the supervisor that the thesis will be submitted within the period of the extension. Extensions beyond twelve months will not be approved.
