Chapter 9:Concerns and/or Questions regarding Candidature; Unsatisfactory Progress; Research Misconduct; Grievances and Appeals

9.1 Concerns and/or questions regarding candidature

Candidates who have concerns or questions about any matter connected with their enrolment, the administration of their degree, supervision, facilities or any other area which impacts on their research are encouraged to take this up with their supervisor(s). If the supervisor(s) is/are unable to assist the candidate, the School Graduate Co-ordinator should be approached. Administrative questions should be directed to the School Graduate Administrator. Candidates who feel that the School cannot satisfactorily deal with their concerns, are invited to approach the Manager of the HDR Operations either in person, by letter or by email. The Associate Dean (Graduate Research) is also available for consultation with HDR candidates . Both the Manager and the Associate Dean (Graduate Research) will see and advise candidates on a fully confidential basis whenever required.

Candidates are strongly encouraged to raise any concerns via the means recommended in the previous paragraph, rather than not addressing the issues in the hope that they will 'go away'.

Candidates who for some reason are unwilling to approach anyone in the Faculty of Arts, may wish to consult with the staff at the Monash Postgraduate Association (MPA) or the staff at the Monash Research Graduate School (MRGS).

Matters which cannot be solved by the process outlined above, will be dealt with according to the Grievance and Appeals Procedures outlined below.
