Cecile Parrish Memorial Scholarship for Graduate Research in English

The School of English, Communications and Performance Studies in the Faculty of Arts invites applications for Cecile Parrish Memorial Scholarship for Graduate Research in English.

This scholarship was endowed by the Cecile Parrish Memorial Fund, established by the trustees of the late Renee Parrish of Singapore in commemoration of her daughter Cecile, a sometime member of staff in the Department of English, Monash University. The fund is administered by Monash University and provides “scholarships for the study of English Literature at Monash University.”

The scholarship shall be awarded annually to enable Masters or PhD scholars to pursue a full-time program of research in post-medieval English studies and shall be made on the basis of outstanding merit together with a background in a relevant Humanities discipline.  The scholarship shall be awarded by the School of English, Communications & Performance Studies (“School”) and selected from a short list of applications.

The School will normally award one scholarship each year depending on the quality of applications.

Eligibility

The scholarship is available to Australian citizens, Australian permanent residents and international applicants.

Only H1 or H1 equivalent applicants will be considered for this scholarship. Applicants holding the following qualifications are automatically classed as H1:

  • Australian/New Zealand bachelors degree with first class honours
  • Australian/New Zealand research masters preliminary degree formally graded at H1 level
  • Australian/New Zealand research masters degree formally graded at H1 level

Applicants who do not hold one of these qualifications may be eligible if their qualifications and/or research experience are deemed H1 equivalent.

Applicants must be undertaking or applying to undertake a research masters or PhD degree in English literature.An outstanding background in a relevant Humanities discipline is required. The scholarship may be held in any field of post-medieval English Studies compatible with the research plans of the English Program.

How to Apply

The online scholarship application form will be available from 1 August 2008 and close at midnight (Australian Eastern Standard Time) on 31 October each year.

Applicants who complete the online scholarship application form will be automatically considered for all postgraduate research scholarships for which they are eligible in the Faculty of Arts at Monash University.
