The Melbourne Centre for Japanese Language Education (MCJLE) Scholarships

The MCJLE Scholarship for research related to the Acquisition of Japanese Language and Cultural Literacy

The Melbourne Centre for Japanese Language Education has introduced a new scholarship series to commence in 2010. 

The Centre now offers:

Each year, the Centre will normally offer either the Scholarship for Japanese Language Education and Cultural Studies or one or more Postgraduate Excellence Award/s for research towards a PhD or research masters degree in the Faculty of Arts at Monash.

The scholarships are designed to promote research into teaching and learning of the Japanese language and various aspects of Japanese society and culture. 

Award Title

Stipend (living allowance)

Value (2010 rate )

$AUD 22,000 per annum (pro rata) plus allowances for full time enrolment

Duration

PhD: 3 years full time
Masters: 2 years full time

Eligibility

The scholarship is available to Australian citizens, Australian Permanent Residents and international applicants. 

Only H1 or H1 equivalent applicants will be considered for this scholarship. Applicants holding the following qualifications are automatically classed as H1:

  • Australian/New Zealand bachelors degree with first class honours
  • Australian/New Zealand research masters preliminary degree formally graded at H1 level
  • Australian/New Zealand research masters degree formally graded at H1 level

Applicants who do not hold one of these qualifications may be eligible if their qualifications and/or research experience are deemed 'H1 Equivalent'.

The scholarship is available to applicants who are currently enrolled in, or proposing to undertake a research towards PhD or research masters degree in teaching and learning of the Japanese language and/or various aspects of Japanese society and culture.

How to Apply

The online scholarship application form will be available from 1 August 2009 and close at midnight (Australian Eastern Standard Time) on 31 October 2009.

Applicants who complete the online scholarship application form will be automatically considered for all postgraduate research scholarships for which they are eligible in the Faculty of Arts at Monash University.

The successful applicants will be notified by post in December 2009.

Note: Successful international applicants will be required to cover the tuition fees of their PhD or Masters enrolment. International applicants are encouraged to apply for a tuition scholarship as well. See relevant information.

$AUD 8,000 per annum, paid fornightly on pro rata basis

Duration

PhD: 3 years full time
Masters: 2 years full time

Eligibility

The scholarship is available to Australian citizens, Australian Permanent Residents and international applicants. 

The scholarship will be offered to outstanding candidates who are awarded an APA or equivalent scholarship in the same scholarship round.

Awardees must be proposing to undertake research towards a PhD or research masters in the teaching and learning of the Japanese language and/or various aspects of Japanese society and culture.

How to Apply

Successful applicants for APA or equivalent scholarship are automatically considered for this top-up award. No direct application is necessary.

The successful awardee/s will be notified by post in December.
