SAMSS Awards Night
Introduction
On Thursday 11 April 2002 the School of Humanities, Communications and Social Sciences held its annual Awards Night in the Bistro at the Monash Gippsland Campus. Award winners and friends were welcomed by the Head of School, Professor Harry Ballis and the Pro Vice-Chancellor of Monash Gippsland, Professor Brian Mackenzie, who delivered an address to the award winners. Awards were presented for academic excellence in various School courses.
In addition to the School course awards, two other awards were presented, the Head of School's Award for general academic excellence and contributions to School life and the Tempo award. Catherine Cochrane received the Head of School's award and Tonya Cairns the Tempo award. The Tempo award is a special award donated by Tempo, a leading Indonesian current affairs journal. The award comprises of a return airfare to Jakarta, a ten thousand dollar living allowance, and a working assignment for up to one semester with Tempo.
