The winner of the inaugural ABC Local Radio Award for Emerging Journalists is Sarah Price.

The $1500 award recognises outstanding achievement for a second year student in the Bachelor of Arts (Journalism) degree at Monash University’s Gippsland campus.  The award was established by Senior Lecturer in Journalism Dr Louise North after more than 2 years of negotiations with the ABC.  It is the first time the ABC has supported a journalism award at an Australian university.

Sarah was one of two outstanding students selected to enter the final interview stage to determine the winner.  The selection panel was impressed with Sarah's commitment to her journalism studies, excellent academic results, and her clear desire to work in the industry.

Sarah will use the award funds travelling to Canberra to interview ABC TV journalist and presenter Virginia Haussegger for a profile piece.  Sarah will also spend two days with Ms Haussegger expanding her developing journalism skills.  The ABC has invited Sarah to tour the ABC 774 studio in Melbourne and also ABC 666 in Canberra.
