About Theatre and Performance

Centre for Theatre and Performance is the largest comprehensive theatre and performance program offered by an Australian university, enjoying a reputation as the most outstanding course of its kind in the country.

We offer two pathways to study theatre and performance at undergraduate and postgraduate levels:

as well as through higher degrees in theatre performance.

The Bachelor of Performing Arts aims to create theatre-makers with a range of acting, directing and production skills, as well as expertise in writing, analysis and critique. Students have ample opportunities to generate original work and to work in a rehearsal and performance context. They can choose to specialise in fields such as directing, music theatre, movement, technical aspects of theatre, theatre history, and scriptwriting and design.

Within the Bachelor of Arts, the theatre and performance stream focuses on the study of the past, present and future of the performance. It is grounded in both theoretical frameworks and reflective, participatory explorations of key themes and questions. Course units cut across a wide range of approaches to theatre and performance and strive to achieve a balance between performance opportunities and a challenging academic program.

Our graduates are well informed, reflective, adventurous and creative. They are grounded in a solid academic understanding of theatre and performance within a broad context.
