Professional Development & Internship Program (Translation and Interpreting)

New professional practice modules for interpreters and translators will be offered in Jan/Feb (period 1) and June/July (period 2) of 2010 and 2011.

Two levels will be available . Entry level modules are aimed at interpreters and translators in languages for which there is currently a high demand in Victoria. These modules provide an introduction to interpreting and translation in various community domains. Specialisation level modules target accredited professionals or graduates of NAATI-approved T&I courses. They provide an opportunity to reflect on and practice advanced interpreting and translation skills in legal and medical fields, and to acquire a deeper knowledge of particular sub-fields in these domains.

Sessions will be team taught by Monash T&I lecturers and academics from other related faculties such as Law, industry professionals, and professionally accredited interpreters with expertise in the particular domain being discussed.

The modules will be delivered through a ‘blended approach’, combining online activities with face-to-face face tuition over a four-week period. Classes will be held at Monash University Caulfield campus on weeknights and Saturdays.

Participants will also be able to earn PD points for revalidation of NAATI accreditation and renewal of AUSIT membership. They will also receive a certificate verifying compliance with all aspects of the instructional modules.

An internship program will run parallel to the taught modules, offering trainees the opportunity to apply their knowledge and skills in a variety of settings, establish a network of contacts, and strengthen specialisation skills in their area of interest.

We are currently seeking applications for the Jan/Feb 2010 modules. Please refer to the Information Booklet for details of the modules and download an Application Form. Please note that applications must be received no later than 15 December 2009.
