Michael Field, Literary Cross-dressing, and the Production of Authorship.

Sharon Bickle

Katharine Bradley (1846-1914) and Edith Cooper (1862-1913)] were aunt and niece, devoted lovers and, as ‘Michael Field,’ the authors of some nine volumes of lyric poetry and twenty-five historical verse dramas; as well as a considerable body unpublished plays and poetry.  This project will gather, organize and analyse their life-writings in order to produce a literary biography of the lives of this incestuous, intergenerational love relationship and collaborative partnership.
