Injecting practice between sexual partners who use injecting drugs
Dr Suzanne Fraser, Dr Max Hopwood, Dr Joanne Bryant, Dr Carla Treloar
The Australian Annual NSP (needle and syringe program) Survey data show that the sharing of injecting equipment is highest among sexual partners. However, little Australian or international research has focused on sexual partnerships and their relationship to the transmission or prevention of hepatitis C.
This seeding project is a collaboration between the Centre for Women’s Studies and Gender Research and the National Centre in HIV Social Research at the University of New South Wales. It will collect and review the available Australian (and where applicable international) literature on injecting practice between sexual partners. In addition, the project will develop a methodology for qualitative projects exploring injecting practice between sexual partners and examining the resonance of hepatitis C prevention messages among couples.
The literature review and methodology developed will form the foundation of a larger interview-based study.
The project is a collaboration between the Centre for Women’s Studies and Gender Research, Monash and the National Centre in HIV Social Research at the University of New South Wales.
